Carolyn Bartholomew is Commissioner and Vice - Chairman of the United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission, established by Congress in 2000 to monitor, investigate, and report on the national security implications of the bilateral trade and economic relationship between the United States and the People’s Republic of China. She is also the past Chairman of the United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission. She previously served as executive director of the Basic Education Coalition, a non-profit organization that works to raise public and private support for basic education for children worldwide. Ms. Bartholomew graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology from the University of Minnesota. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in anthropology from Duke University and a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University.
David Foster is Senior Advisor to the office of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, a governmental department whose mission is to advance energy technology and promote related innovation in the United States. Mr. Foster also serves as a founding executive director of Blue Green Alliance, a strategic national partnership between labor unions and environmental organizations to expand the job-creating potential of the green economy and improve the rights of workers at home and around the world. Prior to joining Blue Green Alliance, he was a district director of the USW. Mr. Foster is an adjunct faculty member of the University of Minnesota and a member of the board of directors of Evraz North America. Mr. Foster holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Reed College.
L. Patrick Hassey served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Allegheny Technologies Incorporated, a global leader in the production of specialty materials for the aerospace, chemical and oil and gas industries (“ATI”), until he retired in May 2011. Mr. Hassey served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of ATI from October 2003 and May 2004, respectively. Prior to joining ATI, Mr. Hassey served as Executive Vice President and a member of the corporate executive committee of Alcoa, Inc. from May 2000 until February 2003, Executive Vice President of Alcoa and Group President of Alcoa Industrial Components. From May 2000 to October 2002 and prior to May 2000, Mr. Hassey served as Executive Vice President of Alcoa and President of Alcoa Europe, Inc. Mr. Hassey currently serves on the Board of Directors of Ryder Systems, Inc., a global leader of transportation and supply chain management solutions, where he is Chairman of the Compensation Committee and a member of the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee, and of Alpha Natural Resources, one of America’s leading producers of coal, where he is a member of the Audit Committee and the Compensation Committee.
Jack A. Hockema is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Hockema has served as Chief Executive Officer since October 2001 and Chairman of the Board of Directors since July 2006. Mr. Hockema also served as President from October 2001 to December 2015. Previously, Mr. Hockema served as Executive Vice President of Kaiser Aluminum and President of Kaiser Aluminum Fabricated Products. In this capacity, he was responsible for sales and manufacturing operations for the company’s Engineered Products business unit and the Flat-Rolled Products business unit. He had also previously served as Vice President and President of the Company’s Engineered Products business unit. Prior to joining Kaiser in 1995, he was the principal in a metals industry management consulting and investment advisory firm and had held senior executive positions with Bohn Extruded Products, a division of Gulf+Western, and American Brass Specialty Products. In addition, he had previously been employed by Kaiser (from 1977 to 1982) in production/operations management positions at several Company locations. Mr. Hockema has served on the Board of Directors of Superior Industries International, Inc. since December 2014. He holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, both from Purdue University.
Teresa A. Hopp was Chief Financial Officer for Western Digital Corporation. Prior to joining Western Digital Corporation, Ms. Hopp served as an Audit Partner for Ernst Young LLP where she managed Audit Department resource planning and scheduling, and served as Internal Education Director and Information Systems Audit and Security Director. She also previously served as a Board member and Audit Committee Chair for On Assignment, Inc. in Calabasas, California, where she was responsible for oversight of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. She graduated summa cum laude from the California State University, Fullerton, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Lauralee E. Martin was Chief Executive Officer and President of HCP, Inc., a real estate investment trust focusing on properties serving the healthcare industry. Ms. Martin also served as a member of HCP, Inc.’s Board of Directors. Prior to joining HCP, Inc., Ms. Martin served as Chief Executive Officer of the Americas division of Jones Lang LaSalle, Inc., a financial and professional services firm specializing in real estate services and investment management, and served as a member of Jones Lang LaSalle, Inc.’s Board of Directors. Ms. Martin also previously held positions with Heller Financial as its Chief Financial Officer, Senior Group President – Heller Financial Real Estate, Equipment Financing and Small Business Lending and served as President of its Real Estate group. Ms. Martin was also a member of the Heller Financial Board of Directors. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oregon State University.
Alfred E. Osborne, Jr., Ph.D. serves as Lead Director for the company. He has been Senior Associate Dean at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Anderson School of Management since July 2003 and Professor of Global Economics and Management since July 2008. He was previously an Associate Professor of Global Economics and Management and held several leadership positions at UCLA, including Director of the Harold & Pauline Price Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. Dr. Osborne’s tenure at UCLA includes various administrative posts, including terms as Chairman of the Business Economics faculty and Director of the MBA program. In addition, he is a Director of Nuverra Environmental Solutions (formerly Heckmann Corporation) and of First Pacific Advisor’s Capital Fund, Crescent Fund, International Value Fund, New Income Funds, Paramount Fund, Perennial Fund, and Source Capital, Inc. He holds a Doctorate in Business Economics, a Master’s degree in Business Administration, a Master’s degree in Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, all from Stanford University.
Former United States Representative Jack Quinn (R-NY) is President of Erie Community College in New York and also serves as trustee of the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust. He served as Commissioner of the Tax Relief Commission and of the Hurricane Sandy Task Force for the State of New York. He was previously President of Cassidy & Associates, a government relations firm in Washington, D.C., where he assisted clients to promote policy and appropriations objectives with a focus on transportation, aviation, railroad, highway, and infrastructure corporate and industry clients. While in Congress, Mr. Quinn was Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads. He was also a senior member of the Transportation Subcommittees on Aviation, Highways and Mass Transit. In addition, he was Chairman of the Executive Committee in the Congressional Steel Caucus. Prior to his election to Congress, Congressman Quinn served as Supervisor of the town of Hamburg, New York. He received Master’s degree from the State University of New York, Buffalo, and a Bachelor’s degree from Siena College in Loudonville, New York. He received honorary Doctorate of Law degrees from Medaille College and Siena College. He is also a Certified School District Superintendent through the New York State Education Department.
Thomas M. Van Leeuwen, CFA, is a private investor. He served as a Director in the Equity Research departments for both Credit Suisse First Boston and Deutsche Bank Securities, two of the world’s leading international financial service providers. Prior to that, Mr. Van Leeuwen was First Vice President of Equity Research with Lehman Brothers. He held the position of Research Analyst with Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., Inc., and Systems Analyst with The Procter & Gamble Company. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University.
Brett Wilcox is a consultant to a number of energy and other companies. He previously was President and CEO of Summit Power Alternative Resources, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Northwest Aluminum, Inc., and Manager of Northwest Energy Development, LLC. He also served as Executive Director of Direct Service Industries, Inc., a trade association of large aluminum and other energy-intensive companies, and as an attorney with Preston, Ellis and Gates in Seattle, Washington. He was Vice Chairman of the Oregon Progress Board and a member of the Governors’ Comprehensive Review of the Northwest Regional Power System. He has also served on the Oregon Governor’s task forces on the structure and efficiency of state government, employee benefits and compensation, and government performance and accountability. Mr. Wilcox received a Juris Doctorate from Stanford Law School and a Bachelor’s degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
